How to hire me as an illustrator

About my drawings

My drawings are all created digitally, using Corel Painter 9.5.

The process

Generally, here's how I work:

• We exchange some e-mails about what you want. I may ask you to look at my samples gallery and have you tell me which images convey the feel and/or style you're looking for. I will also need to know the size you want (height and width of the image in terms of pixels).
• I give you a a price and time estimate. A drawing may take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the complexity of the drawing and my current work schedule.
• Based on earlier discussions, I come up with a sketch for you to look over.
• After approval of the sketch, I do the final drawing, which I will send you by e-mail.

Pricing

My prices range from about US$25 for a black & white headshot like this one and up. You might have been hoping for a detailed pricing breakdown, but it really does depend on the situation.

Please note that pricing does not including printing. I do not provide printing services; it's up to you to take the image and have it printed...either on your own printer or at a printing service.

Half of the fee is due upon delivery of the sketch. The other half is due upon delivery of the final drawing.

Factors that influence the price:

• Colour or black & white.
• How complex the drawing's going to be. If you want background details, it will cost more. If there is going to be more than one subject, it will cost more.
• How much research I'll have to do.
• Your deadline.
• How you plan to use the drawing. If you plan to use it for a commercial publication or site rather than for personal use, the fee will be higher.
• Style.
• How clear you are about what you want. If you keep changing your mind throughout the process, it will cost more.
